barack obama and former massachusetts governor mitt romney. the stage is ready in denver, colorado. the university of denver. and all of the expectations management to the contrary, the two men you're going to see tonight are very good debaters. they have four ivy league degrees between them, after all, and 50 debates between them, though not against each other until tonight. there is a critical third man on that stage tonight in denver. that's the moderator, jim lehrer of pbs. he's done a dozen of these. and the rules, which he will announce at the start, give him broad leeway to guide the conversation and the debate. it is a cold room in denver. the campaigns wanted the temperature low. and it's not likely to stay that way once we get under way. both men have been prepping for days. this happens to be the obamas' 20th wedding anniversary. moments ago we saw a warm embrace between mrs. romney and mrs. obama. they both met each other at the front of the hall. their hiss, this is the first of three meetings debate style between these candidates. even though voting is under way in 34

of his answers, president obama spoke to either jim lehrer or the audience. this was, in general, a good debate. there were some annoyed appearances ffom the president, some inpatient attempts to interrupt the flow of things by mitt romney, but fairly ssall. lots of policy. for reporters and voters who thought a lot of times this campaign has ordered a little bit too on -- to much on the cynical, there was it kind of policy tonight. you heard president obama at one. take the president -- take mitt romney to task. that did not happen until the last half-hour of the debate. for the better part of the first hour, it was mitt romney who was pn offense, challenging president's record, addressing him directly, accusing the president of misrepresenting mitt romney. toward the end, we heard mitt romney say, you are entitled to your own house and plain, but not your own facts. there was a fair amount of %+arring back and forth. generally speaking, there demeanor's seemed like, in mitt romney's case, he is prepared to be president, and president obama is struggling with some of the strains of bein

of three debates between myself and president obama. and i'm looking forward to having a serious conversation with my opponent about the issues. and as you may havheard, i've also prepared a few zingers for the occasion. [ laughter ] would you like a taste? [ cheers and applause ] for example, when we greet each other onstage before the debate, i'll put my finger on obama's tie and i'll say, "hey, there's something on your tie." [ laughter ] then, when he looks down, i'll slide my finger from his sternum right up to his nostrils, and i'll say, "boop." virginia, president barack obama has stops in colorado and wisconsin. all three are battleground states. let's last night's presidential debate from fox's nicole collins. nicole is live on capitol hill this morning. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, allison. those swing states very important. for mitt romney last night, he's been trailing slightly in the polls in many of those states, so it was very important for him to have a strong showing and it appears he delivered.
